Taylor steps down from Mental Health America

Lebanon Reporter, The (IN) - 1/24/2015

Jan. 24--After 22 years as the executive director of Mental Health America of Boone County, Jane Taylor is retiring at the end of this month.

Current plans are for Pascal Fettig, the current assistant director, to succeed Taylor as executive director. The decision is pending board approval next week.

"I have mixed emotions because it's been such a big part of my life," Taylor said Friday. "But I think it's time. I have other things I need to do and want to pursue."

Taylor has several children and grandchildren nearby, who she wants to spend more time with, she said. She and her husband would also like to do some traveling, including spending time at a condo they own in Florida. Taylor also wants to do more volunteer work.

"This job has been pretty hectic, including calls at 2 in the morning and on weekends and holidays," she said. "It just seems like it's the right time to take a little breather from that."

But the MHA office is in great hands, Taylor said. She has the highest opinion of her staff and has no doubts things will carry on just as well if not better than currently, she said.

Taylor has seen many significant changes in the mental health field throughout her 22-year career, she said. One of the biggest changes is the light being shone on mental health issues recently. They have been in the headlines frequently, and though it's not good that these negative things are taking place, Taylor is glad for the awareness being brought to mental health issues.
